WordPress: Maybe I Judged It Too Quickly

As a software engineer, I’ve always looked at WordPress as a somewhat limited tool. Coming from a background where I’m used to building applications from scratch, I never really considered it something particularly interesting.

To be fair, I think a bit of developer ego played a role in that perception. There’s this tendency to believe that writing everything yourself somehow makes the end result better. But does it really?

Working with WordPress as part of this project has been an interesting opportunity to challenge that mindset. While it’s not necessarily the tool I would choose for every project, it’s hard to ignore how widely used it is and how effectively it serves its purpose.

What I’ve learned so far is that a good tool doesn’t need to be the most technically sophisticated one. It needs to solve the problem it’s meant to solve.

Maybe WordPress has more to offer than I’ve been willing to give it credit for. And perhaps being a good developer also means knowing when not to reinvent the wheel.
